The Neurodiverse Relationship Check-Up
A free twelve-question self-assessment for couples where one or both partners are neurodivergent. It takes three to five minutes. It looks at the hidden mechanics of your connection - the patterns, strengths and translation gaps that shape how you and your partner relate to each other.
Take this check-up if
- You and your partner keep having the same argument in different outfits, and you cannot work out why.
- One of you reaches for logic and facts while the other reaches for emotional connection, and you keep missing each other.
- You feel more like respectful roommates than partners, and you are not sure when the drift started.
- Sensory differences - noise, touch, clutter, eye contact - create friction you have never quite been able to name.
- One or both of you is autistic, has ADHD, or is otherwise neurodivergent, and you want to understand how your two brains interact.
About this check-up
Rather than asking what is wrong with us, this check-up asks how the two of you are built and where the wiring meets. Most relationship tools assume both partners share the same operating system. This one does not.
It starts from the reality that neurodiverse couples often communicate, process emotions and experience the physical world differently, and that those differences are not flaws to be fixed. They are languages to be translated.
Who it is for
Neurodiverse couples, or an individual partner who wants to understand the dynamics in their relationship better. You do not both need to take it together. One person’s perspective is a meaningful starting point, and plenty of people take it alone first and share the results afterwards.
What it measures
Twelve questions across three lenses.
The core dynamic
The underlying pattern shaping how the two of you connect, or how you miss each other.
Communication style
How information, needs and emotions actually move between you - and where they get lost on the way.
Sensory profile
How sensory needs and your shared physical environment affect closeness. This is the lens most relationship questionnaires leave out entirely, and it is often where the friction has been coming from.
Your check-up score
The check-up produces a score from 0 to 100, in three bands.
Needs attention - 0 to 40
You may be navigating real strain across several areas of connection right now. This is not a verdict on your relationship. It is a signal that focused, neurodivergent-affirming support could help you find your footing again.
Moderate strain - 41 to 75
You have a foundation to build on, alongside some recurring friction points. Naming those patterns with curiosity, and a little support, can turn a repeated conflict into better translation.
Thriving - 76 to 100
You have found ways to work with your differences rather than against them. There may still be room to deepen the connection, but you are clearly doing the active maintenance that strong neurodiverse relationships rely on.
Your result type
Beyond the score, the check-up identifies the primary pattern shaping your connection right now. Recognising the pattern helps you see what is actually happening underneath, and where small shifts make the biggest difference. There are four.
The logic versus emotion loop
One partner chases emotional connection while the other retreats into logic and facts in order to feel safe. The more one reaches for resonance, the more the other reaches for certainty, and both end up feeling unseen.
Parallel lives
Safety is maintained by keeping distance. The peace is real, but without active bridging it can drift quietly toward emotional loneliness and a roommate-style dynamic.
The high-intensity cycle
A relationship fuelled by stimulation and intensity, swinging between deep passion and chaotic overwhelm. The connection is strong, but the everyday administration of life often becomes the battleground.
Bridging differences successfully
A secure connection where you have stopped trying to fix each other and instead manage your differences with care. You translate rather than transform, and you treat the relationship as something worth actively maintaining.
What this check-up is not
It is a reflection tool, not a diagnostic instrument. It cannot tell you whether either of you is autistic or has ADHD, it does not assess either partner individually, and it is not a substitute for an assessment by a qualified clinician. A low score is not a prediction about your relationship, and a high one is not a guarantee.
Support for a stronger connection
The way two neurodivergent brains meet in a relationship can be layered, tender and deeply personal. Whatever pattern showed up for you, it is a starting point rather than a sentence. A neurodivergent-affirming couples therapist can help you turn these insights into something that actually changes day to day.

About Neurodiverse Couples Counseling
We work with neurodiverse couples - relationships where one or both partners are autistic, have ADHD, or are otherwise neurodivergent. Our approach is neurodiversity-affirming: we do not treat one partner as the problem to be corrected, and we do not treat a mixed-neurotype relationship as a deficit.
Neurodiverse Couples Counseling is part of New Path Family of Therapy Centers, Inc.
