What Would Trust Even Require?
Whether or not you choose to rebuild, it helps to get clear on what rebuilding trust would actually require - what you'd need to see, over how long, to feel safe again. This isn't a promise to stay. It's clarity about what trust would cost, so you can judge honestly whether it's truly being offered.
Trust is rebuilt by consistent changed behavior over time: Not by promises, not by apologies, and not by your willingness to overlook. Words are cheap after betrayal; the pattern over time is what tells the truth.
What rebuilding trust would require
Tick what you'd need to see.
- [ ] Full honesty, no more secrets
- [ ] Real treatment and change in him
- [ ] Transparency I don't have to demand
- [ ] My pain taken seriously, over time
- [ ] Consistency - not just one good week
- [ ] Accountability without me having to police it
Specifically, what would I need to see to trust again?

Is it actually happening?
Look at the pattern over weeks and months, not at the promises or the good days.
Honestly, what's the pattern actually been?

Trust earned back is shown, not sworn: You get to set the bar for what you need, and watch over time whether it's met. Needing a lot after a deep betrayal is not unreasonable - it's appropriate. Let the pattern, not the promises, tell you the truth.

- Trust & Your Decision: Rebuild, Wait, or Step Away, from Healing After Betrayal. Trust rebuilds only through consistent, transparent action over time. Your choice to rebuild, wait, or step away is yours.
- Boundaries That Keep You Safe (the WISE formula), from Healing After Betrayal. After betrayal, a boundary is a fence that keeps you safe - not control or punishment.
- Receiving the Truth: Formal Disclosure, On Your Terms, from Healing After Betrayal. The chaotic way you found out is not the same as a prepared disclosure - one you have the right to receive, on terms you help set.
