What Betrayal Trauma Does to Your Body and Mind
If you feel like you're falling apart - can't sleep, can't stop thinking, heart racing, swinging between rage and numbness - there's a reason, and it has a name. Betrayal trauma puts your nervous system into survival mode, the same way any major threat does. What's happening to you is a real, recognized trauma response. You are not weak and you are not losing your mind.
Your body is responding to a wound, not malfunctioning: These reactions are your nervous system doing its job after a shock - protecting you. They feel awful, and they make complete sense. Naming them is the first step toward relief.

This is your nervous system, not your character
Fight, flight, freeze - these are automatic survival responses to a threat, and betrayal by someone you trusted is a profound threat. You're not overreacting. You're responding exactly the way a hurt human responds.
One small thing that brings me even a little relief:

It won't always feel this raw: Naming what's happening is the beginning of it loosening its grip. Betrayal trauma is real, and it is also something people heal from with time and support. You won't always feel the way you feel today. If you ever feel unsafe, please reach out - call or text 988.
