Anger Without Destruction

Valid anger still needs somewhere to go that doesn't burn down your own house - your health, your peace, your kids, your sense of self. This isn't about suppressing it; suppression backfires. It's about expressing and channeling your anger so it moves through you instead of running you or turning inward.

The goal isn't less anger - it's anger that serves you: Anger felt and channeled moves through and out. Anger denied gets stuck and leaks - into your body, your mood, your relationships. You can be furious and still protect what matters to you.

Where my anger goes now

Tick what's been happening.

  • [ ] I stuff it and it leaks out sideways
  • [ ] I explode and then regret it
  • [ ] It turns inward - depression, self-blame
  • [ ] It's affecting my kids or others
  • [ ] It's the only thing I can feel

Healthy outlets

Ways to move anger through your body and out:

  • Physical: a hard walk or run, lifting, hitting a pillow
  • Expressive: journaling, screaming in the car, art
  • Spoken: to a therapist, a safe friend, or a support group
  • Somatic: let yourself shake, cry, move it through

One person or thing I want to keep my anger from spilling onto, and how:

Furious and still yourself: You can hold onto your values and your relationships even while you're enraged - by giving the anger a real outlet instead of a target. If your anger ever turns toward hurting yourself, please reach out for support right away - you deserve care, not more pain.
